Atlantis Unveils Revamp Details

Among a host of new plans announced – which add up to $100 million investment and which will create 400 new jobs – Kerzner International is upgrading suites at the One and Only Ocean Club and in Royal Towers.

In all, 110 suites in the Royal Towers, which first opened in 1998, are being created and refurbished to draw a more discerning client for the Atlantis casino.

That work begins in September but today The Nassau Guardian can show you exclusive pictures of a model room for the Royal Towers, and for the Ocean Club.

The resort is also spending $20 million to $25 million upgrading the casino itself, turning it into “a state of the art facility” with a new high end gaming area and lounge, plus two facilities – the Atlas and Dragons – are to be revamped using outside designers.

This should help Atlantis satisfy the so-called ‘whales’ super-rich clients who travel the world spending millions in casinos. On top of that 60 suites in the Coral Tower will also be revamped.

Atlantis is also spending $20 million to $25 million on a restaurant reopening plan including:

*Reopening Fathoms which has been closed for 18 months with a celebrity chef from the U.S., creating an indoor outdoor venue to open in 2011.

*Reopening the Water’s Edge buffet in Coral Tower with a celebrity chef coming from New York creating barbecue concept for families – this is at an the advanced design stage and again should open in 2011.

*Reopening the Great Hall of Waters in lobby of Royal Towers, creating a lounge concept serving teas, coffees sandwiches.

On top of that Atlantis is spending $10 million to $12 million creating a 12,000 sq ft teen’s club which Kerzner International (Bahamas) managing director George Markantonis said would be “the greatest in the world”.
