Tax Reform, Tourism and VAT…

While the recent tax symposium was cancelled, organizers took advantage of the presence of numerous local and international tax experts who were in The Bahamas during Hurricane Sandy to record their presentations and facilitate a round-table discussion.

BHA, working closely with Allied Member KPMG, was able to bring a tourism perspective into the mix, bringing in tax expert Wayne Lovell from the KPMG Barbados office.

Cacique Award Finalists Announced

Cacique 2013Ministry of Tourism Permanent Secretary Dr. Patricia Rogers and Bahamas Hotel Association President Stuart Bowe have announced the finalists for the Cacique Awards following a review by independent selection committees for BHA and the Ministry of an impressive slate of nominees submitted by the public and BHA members.

Statement From Stuart Bowe, BHA President, Re Hurricane Sandy

The Bahamas Hotel Association, along with the Ministry of Tourism, continues to monitor the impact of Hurricane Sandy on travel to and from The Bahamas.
On the whole, the impact of Hurricane Sandy on hotel properties throughout The Bahamas appears to be minimal and most hotels throughout The Bahamas are now fully operational.  Several Family Island hotels which normally close briefly during this time of the year report a slight delay in reopening to allow time for cleaning up and repairing minor damage.
