The Bahamas Hotel and Tourism Association held its 21st Annual Golf Tournament at the prestigious Royal Blue Golf Club at Baha Mar on Sunday, November 17.

The tournament supports BHTA’s workforce development programmes and scholarships for students whose studies fall within the gamut of the hospitality industry.

Tourism: Dorian Loss Is ‘Unprecedented’

The Bahamas Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA) yesterday said Hurricane Dorian had inflicted an “unprecedented economic loss” on Abaco, and the island will take time to recover.

The Association, in a brief statement to Tribune Business on behalf of its president, Carlton Russell, said it was “fully aware” that reconstruction following the category five storm will be protracted with the financial “sting” felt throughout the country during September.

Heavy-Duty Vehicles Donated to Help Hurricane Dorian Rebuilding Efforts

Five heavy-duty off-road vehicles have been donated to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to strengthen the recovery and resettlement efforts in Northern Bahamas following the passage of Hurricane Dorian.

The ROXOR vehicles which are valued at $125,340.00 arrived at NEMA Headquarters in New Providence on November 5th, 2019 and will be distributed to Abaco and Grand Bahama to help with aid and relief efforts on each affected island.

Ex-Bahamas Tourism Official To Be Honoured

A Bahamian tourism executive will be honoured at the Caribbean Media Exchange (CMEX) Leadership Awards 2019 for more than 35 years of service to the industry.

Frank Comito, the former Bahamas Hotel and Tourism Association’s (BHTA) executive vice-president, will be rewarded for his efforts to spur economic development, organisation management, government affairs, project management, workforce development, research and business and investor support in the tourism industry.

Nominations are now open for the 18th Cacique Awards

The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism encourages the Bahamian public to submit their nominations for the 18th Cacique Awards beginning Monday October 28, until January 31, 2020.

Nassau, Bahamas – The Ministry of Tourism and the Bahamas Hotel Association held the first annual Cacique Awards in 1996. At this juncture, the long-standing tourism partners joined their respective awards – the National Tourism Achievement Awards and the Hotel Industry Awards – to celebrate the finest in industry.

The 18th Cacique Awards, which celebrates the brightest and the best in the country’s hospitality industry, will be held at the Baha Mar Resort Convention Centre on May 23, 2020, under the theme, “Still Rockin”.

Ministry of Tourism’s Permanent Secretary, Charles Albury, promises that this Cacique Awards will be an exciting celebration of Bahamians and encourages persons to nominate individuals in the industry.
