Grand Isle Resort Appoints New Manager
Grand Isle Resort & Spa has appointed Bahamian Shervin Penn as resort manager of its $100 million, luxurious 78 condo villa resort located at Emerald Bay, Great Exuma.
James Clabaugh, president of EGI Ltd, developers of the luxury property, said: “We are pleased to announce the promotion of Assistant Manager Shervin Penn to the post of resort manager.
“We know that a new era is dawning for Exuma and we believe that Shervin’s appreciation of how important a superior visitor experience is will help Grand Isle retain its standing among repeat discerning guests and the many new visitors that Sandals will be bringing to Exuma.”

Hilton Trustees Blasted By Judge
A judge has found the Board of Trustees for one of the British Colonial Hilton’s owners “failed in their duty” to supervise investments in that property and their other Bahamian holding, the South Ocean resort, with members of its investments committee also guilty of breaching regulatory guidelines.

Sea Arrivals Up But Air Arrivals Down
Visitor air arrivals during the month of September declined by 12.8 percent throughout The Bahamas, with New Providence’s tourism decline improving slightly from the month before.
According to the Ministry of Tourism’s latest data for the month, although arrivals to the country grew by 5.5 percent or around 150k visitors, there was 143 fewer air arrivals to the destination than the year ago period. That latter category acts as a true indicator on the performance of this nation’s number one industry: Tourism.

Bahamas Hotel Sector Must Expand Room Inventory
The Bahamas Hotel Association’s (BHA) president yesterday said it was “critical” for the sector to grow its room inventory and absorb this nation’s ever-expanding labour force, arguing that this had helped Jamaica and the Dominican Republic to increase US stopover arrivals at the same time as this nation experienced a 14 per cent decline.
