MasterCard renewed its commitment to The Bahamas ‘Find Your Way’ promotion last week with a re-launch of the campaign maximizing value for visitors and locals alike by allowing MasterCard card holders armed with a MasterCard booklet or map and their card to take advantage of specials offered by participating attractions, excursions, restaurants, hotels and stores.

It’s never too early to begin to shape young minds about the many career and business opportunities in the world’s largest industry – tourism, according to officials from the Bahamas Hotel Association. As part of its program of activities to improve the quality of the industry’s current and future workforce, two years ago BHA created the Junior Hotelier Program which is now reaching over 200 students annually.
Recently, over thirty (30) students from the Oakes Field Primary School, led by Joan Knowles-Turnquest, teacher met in the Boardroom of the Bahamas Hotel Association with BHA President Stuart Bowe to discuss the industry, its importance, the range of opportunities, and what it takes to succeed in the industry.

The Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association Education Foundation is Accepting Scholarship Applications for Students, Employees and Educators for their 2011 Awards.
Thanks to BHA Member support we presently have four Bahamians attending Johnson and Wales and Florida International University under this scholarship program. The total value of their awards is $54,000.

After receiving no news from Harcourt Development for some time, the Grand Bahamas government has finally found the officials of the company. Minister of Finance Zhirvago Laing with Royal Oasis Hotel owner the Harcourt Group are in talks with parties over interests in a piece of dormant property that has been inactive since September of 2004.

Top industry professionals in the Revans University Hospitality & Tourism Professional Masters program met at The Bahamas Hotel & Tourism Association to present and discuss individual project proposals aimed at addressing critical issues in their respective fields within the country’s Hospitality Industry.
These industry professionals are part of a new professional development program launched in The Bahamas by Revans University, England and the International Management Centres Association Socrates (IMCA) with the support of The Bahamas Hotel Association (BHA) and with approved registration by The Bahamas Ministry of Education, Tertiary/Quality Assurance Division.
Increased competition and demand for ‘value deals’ has prevented major Bahamian hotels from increasing their average daily room rate (ADR) to pre-recession levels, the Bahamas Hotel Association (BHA) president yesterday saying they were down on average by $15-$16, as he warned: “There’s no silver bullet.”
