BHTA President Urges Businesses to Plan Now for VAT Implementation
With the Government’s VAT implementation date set for January 1, 2015, BHTA President Stuart Bowe urges businesses to begin planning as much as they possibly can now to avoid costly delays and transition challenges.
“We continue to deliberate with Government to release the draft legislation, regulations, customs duty schedules and guide notes well in advance of January 1. Businesses should not sit back and wait for these items to be in place. We encourage all stakeholders to utilize this time to gain more knowledgeable on VAT and to plan for its implementation wherever possible” states Bowe.

The program serves to highlight the nation’s graduating students via the media, specifically the Nassau Guardian, who have successfully completed Hospitality or Tourism Related coursework.

National Culinary Team Shines at Taste of the Caribbean
Months of preparation, culminated in the Bahamas National Culinary Team competing against top chefs throughout the region this week at the prestigious Taste of the Caribbean Competition 2014 in Miami and bringing home a number of top honors, including the team silver medal and two individual gold and six individual silver medals.
Panel: Country ‘Desperate’ For Driven Professionals
A panel of industry leaders claimed that The Bahamas is “desperate” for bright, driven young professionals, while highlighting opportunities within underdeveloped sectors.
“The country has the right to expect more from you,” stated businessman Franklyn Wilson of young Bahamians, while encouraging them to take advantage of entrepreneurship and overlapping opportunities within the tourism, services, and agriculture industries.
