BHTA Optimistic About Robust Spring Break Season

The Bahamas Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA) said yesterday member hotels are looking forward to having a robust Easter and spring break period.

“Overarchingly, bookings for Nassau and Paradise Island (PI) properties have been robust for January and February 2026, and the same positive trajectory is anticipated to continue throughout spring break and beyond Easter,” BHTA President Jackson Weech told Guardian Business.

“Large hotels in Nassau and Paradise Island have a strong group base that is driving occupancy figures and healthy, organized student groups and FIT travellers that are supporting a favorable Spring Break period.

“Easter is near or at capacity for several hotels throughout New Providence and continues to grow in those small windows of availability that still exist. While our heads in bed gauge is pointing in the right direction, revenue is further bolstered by healthy room rates, a dual trend we hope to maintain for as long as possible.”

Weech added: “The same sunny outlook unfortunately, cannot be said for properties throughout many of our Family Islands, as tourism stakeholders continue to experience the ill effects of the loss of integral airlift with the cessation of Silver Airways, and other factors, which has contributed to, in certain instances, a double digit drop off in occupancy figures and reduced revenue generation for many properties in the Family Islands, with few exceptions.

“The BHTA, in a very recent executive retreat meeting, has committed to … working collaboratively with private and public sector partners…to support and help communal members and tourism communities throughout the Family Islands face new and longstanding challenges that impact their tourism ecosystem in particular.”

Spring break season has typically been strong tourism periods for New Providence. The Bahamas experienced a record-breaking surge in tourism for spring 2024, with 11.22 million total visitors in 2024, up 16.2 percent over 2023. March 2024 was particularly high for arrivals, with air arrivals for early 2024 remaining strong, notably in the Abacos and Grand Bahama, while New Providence remained the busiest hub.
