An environmental and global energy consultant said yesterday that the Bahamas could set the trend in the Caribbean for renewable energy production because of the diversity of its islands, and the wide variety of energy sources that could be implemented.

Energy Conference and Trade Show

More than 5,000 visitors are expected to come through the doors of a major two-day conference and trade show starting today.

The 2009 Energy Conference and Business Trade Show (view the agenda here - PDF) opens today at the Sheraton Nassau Beach Resort with around 50 vendors offering their wares to visitors.

Today sees the conference organized by a partnership of Bahamas Hotel Association, the Chamber of Commerce and the U.S. Embassy aimed at discussing energy solutions for businesses.

200 New Workers To Be Hired At Atlantis Resort

Nearly a year after 800 people were laid off from the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island, property officials are planning to hire approximately 200 people to fill positions that will become available later this year with the opening of two new facilities, according to President and Managing Director of Kerzner International Bahamas George Markantonis.
