Atlantis is staking its claim to become the location of one of the largest poker tournaments in the world, hosting the annual PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) this year and for the next two years to come.

"We are pleased to have this group booked through 2012 and hope for their return many years into the future," Kerzner spokesman Ed Fields told Guardian Business. "Pokerstars is now the world's largest on-line gaming company and hosts over 50 tournaments a year all over the world, the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure is their largest tournament."

This week's event is actually the seventh PCA tournament for Atlantis and has grown from 400 players to over 2000 players. It's a number guaranteed to secure maximum exposure for the country and, to larger extent, the resort.

Fields said the tournament is being filmed by ESPN and has tremendous media coverage from Europe, Latin America, and Asia, with the winner of the main event winning $3 Million.

Entrants to the tournament yesterday included USA hip-hop star Nelly, Playboy playmate and Million Dollar Challenge contestant Jayde Nicole, US talk show host Montel Williams, German tennis legend Boris Becker, Major League baseball great Orel Hershiser, Dutch hockey pro Fatima de Melo and NHL star Mats Sundin.
