More than 5,000 visitors are expected to come through the doors of a major two-day conference and trade show starting today.

The 2009 Energy Conference and Business Trade Show (view the agenda here - PDF) opens today at the Sheraton Nassau Beach Resort with around 50 vendors offering their wares to visitors.

Today sees the conference organized by a partnership of Bahamas Hotel Association, the Chamber of Commerce and the U.S. Embassy aimed at discussing energy solutions for businesses.

Tomorrow see the trade show play host to around 50 companies including the Nassau Airport Development Company, Scotiabank (Bahamas) Ltd and firms such as Waste Not & Cans for Kids.

Frank Comito of the Bahamas Hotel Association said the energy efficiency message was key to the two days: "We are expecting to see around 5,000 people coming. The emphasis this year is energy efficiency and in these days of the recession reducing operational costs is something many business people will be interested in.

"That's what we will be focusing on, we have 10 exhibitors who focus directly on that message.

"We are pleased with the response from exhibitors, we have been investing in promoting this event because we believe in it."
